How to make a Peanut Butter Bird Feeder

Writer's picture: happiest in wellieshappiest in wellies

Want to help feed all the hungry little tweeters in your neighbourhood?

Here's how to make one of our favourite homemade hanging bird feeders in 6 simple steps.

What you need:

- Pine cones

- Peanut butter (crunchy or smooth - the birds aren’t fussy!)

- Bird seed

- Spoon 🥄

- String or wool to hang

How to make:

Step 1: Go for a woodland walk to collect some pine cones - this is the most fun bit 😊🌲

Step 2: Leave on the radiator for a day or so to dry out and open

Step 3: Tie string or wool around bottom of cone to hang (definitely do this bit first as you’ll get messy peanut buttery fingers if you do it later - trust me🤣)

Step 4: Using the spoon, spread the peanut butter all over the pine cone (this is a bit fiddly for small hands so a grown up pair of hands might be needed 🙌🏼)

Step 5: Once covered roll in bird seed (great fun for little hands)

Step 6: Hang outside somewhere the birds will find them

Job done ✔️

Do the birds in your area like peanut butter? Make some and find out 😜
